Sonoda was a Japanese salaryman who couldn’t give up on his dream of becoming a painter. He quits his job and begins attending an art school, relying on his lawyer wife, Yayoi, to pay the family’s bills. At school he takes an interest in a handsome young man named Hikari. He invites Hikari over to model for a painting, and the two begin a sexual liaison. Meanwhile, he lets his relationship with his own wife slide. He refuses Yayoi’s advances and drowns himself in his relationship with Hikari, only to discover that Hikari has a fianc\u00e9e named Kaori.
\nSonoda begins to tell his tale to a doctor from his bed in a cold, sterile hospital room. This is just the prelude to a story of love and hate between men and women, and the strange fate they meet…<\/p>\n
